BURAQOIL Petrol Stations

" Buraqoil has embarked on a facelift and rebranding exercise of 198 petrol stations located in rural areas across eight states. "

The petrol stations are located in Perlis, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak.

"They are small-sized stations and not so popular brands. What we are going to do is to upgrade and give them a new look," IPTB Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

He said this would bring better business for the petrol station operators. The move follows the successful completion of a pilot project with a petrol station in Langkawi, Kedah, which saw its business double after undergoing a facelift six months ago.

Buraqoil, supplied by IPTB, is a project under the Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry.

Sabbaruddin said the rebranding will cost between RM150,000 and RM300,000 per station, depending on their conditions.

He said although the costs will be borne by the respective petrol station operators, IPTB will help them secure loans from financial institutions.

The operators will also be given training on financial management and communication skills for business purposes.

Currently, IPTB is working on rebranding 32 other petrol stations, while six others are ready for business.

Sabbaruddin gave an assurance that Buraqoil is an ISO 9001-certified oil and that there is no compromise on safety or standards.

"The quality of the petrol is the same as we buy from other companies like Esso and Shell. Its our service and branding that are going to be different," he added.

He also said IPTB's 32 tankers, which are equipped with global positioning system (GPS), are an assurance to the government that there will not be any form of misuse of the subsidised petrol.

"We will be able to keep track on the tankers," he added.
